Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull
I’ve not been excited about this - for a number of reasons.
First off, I don’t need to see twenty year old action franchises CONTINUED with the SAME AGING action star. No Rocky, no Rambo, no Terminator, and please no Indiana Jones. Continue the series, or redo it, but with age appropriate actors. PLEASE.
Second, while I really like Raiders of the Lost Ark, and find Temple of Doom kind of fun . . . the Last Crusade was pretty bad. No, I didn’t like it at all. This new film, nearly twenty years later, looks to be more of that. Not interested.
Third, and probably the nail in the coffin, is the trailer. It did nothing for me. I felt no excitement at all. I’m sorry for all of you who did like it - I’m just being honest here.
I don’t think I’m seeing this one.

Gotta see it Jim.
How can we poke fun at it if we haven’t seen it? heh.

I’m going to see it. It has to be better then the crap that’s come out the last few years (i.e. X-Men 3, Pirates 2-3, Spider-man 3, Fantastic Four 1-2, etc.) Can I assume you liked Ironman? There’s another one that has no interest for me. That and Speed Racer. Ugh!

Well, not that I want to turn Episode Fun into a movie discussion - and my opinions on Spielberg and Lucas non-withstanding - nor on the list of movies you gave as “crap” -
but yes, I did see Iron Man. And loved it more than I thought I would. And will be seeing it again this weekend, taking my brother and nephew and possibly my nieces, sister and mom - all of whom think the trailers look great.
Rotten Tomtaotes, Movies.com, critics, fan exit polling - the movie is probably one of the best received and best critically reviewed action movies, let alone super-hero comic book movies, ever. Second highest opening of a non-sequel. 106 on IMDB’s top 250 films ever (and it’s been out basically a week) only topped by Sin City and Batman Begins. Over 90% on all Rotten Tomatoes ratings (that’s better than Batman Begins or Spider-Man, and WAY better than Phantom Menace which should be a kiddie comic book)
None of that matters if you don’t want to see it, and that’s cool.
Iron Man is doing fine without you.
I’m not telling people to not see Crystal Skull -
All I said was it looks like it was made in the 80’s, except with Harrison Ford from 20 years in the future (READ - OLD.) It looks boring to me. Indy was never a big draw for me - heck, Lucas just fails to capture my imagination the way he does with so many other people. And Spielberg is HIGH on my list of “talented by overrated directors.”
All that said - I’m right there with you on X-Men: The Last Stand AND Speed Racer. I was going to swallow my pride and see SR because Scott Porter was in it and the Wachowski’s did it, but then I saw the trailers, remembered Matrix Revolutions, and realized I have negative interest in the Speed Racer cartoon so - yeah, I’m skipping that one.
Skipping it and going to the awesome Iron Man again! Robert Downey Jr. is PERFECT in that film. Perfect. And Favreau has proven, to me, that he is a brilliant director.

Susan, I think you may be right …
here’s what I’ve read on the film so far, and it is EXACTLY what I was anticipating:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/10/movies/10indy.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/36667 - WARNING, SPOILERS!!!
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/36677
And specifically the line:
“But for those of you that feel that the new Star Wars Movies robbed your childhood, expect some molestations from Uncles’ George and Steven…”
So, in the end, I think you are right Susan. I will have to force myself to watch this - and instead of Episode Foo, we may well indeed be doing Indiana Ford (or some other clever title) - though it’ll probably be Spielberg wearing a tin-foil hat (kinda spoiler-ish there, sorry) instead of Podhelmet I mock this time.
